Every house moves. The trick is telling ordinary movement apart from something structural.
Usually cosmetic: thin vertical or diagonal lines running out from the corners of doors and windows, cracks along a taped joint, nail pops in a ceiling. Seasonal humidity does this. Tape, mud, sand, paint, done.
Worth a closer look: anything wider than the edge of a coin, cracks that keep reopening after being filled, horizontal lines across a basement wall, and doors or windows that start sticking in the same season every year.
When we patch, we cut back to sound board, tape it properly, feather the compound out wide and prime before topcoat. A rushed patch announces itself the moment afternoon light hits the wall, so we take the extra pass.
